With only two people on staff, Video Services may be the smallest unit in the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, but its work reaches the more than 1,200 members of the department and beyond.

Video Services shoots, edits and produces training videos by documenting accidents and other situations involving individuals who are trapped as well as any fire or other incident that has more than one alarm. The unit documents more than 100 fire and rescue incidents each year.

Video Services has documented fire and rescue incidents since 1985, and much of the footage ends up in training videos that are shown throughout the department. Each week the unit produces a 60-minute training show that airs on local cable access. These videos are used as continuing education for all of JFRD's firefighters. The department also uses the video to critique operations.

The quality of video produced by Video Services is best illustrated by the fact that it regularly appears on television news programs and has been shown on such reality TV shows as Without Warning, Real TV, Rescue 911 and others. In addition, Video Services sells training videos to other departments and raw accident footage to lawyers hoping to bolster their cases in court.

The department is currently working to provide web-based video training so all firefighters can access any training from the web.
