Chief Anthony L. Roseberry
Fire Prevention Division
Anthony L. Roseberry joined the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department on July 25, 1983 as a firefighter assigned to Engine 30. After three years there and two years on Engine 4, Roseberry shifted his career from fighting fires to preventing them. He transferred to headquarters and the Prevention Division, where he earned promotions to engineer in 1989; lieutenant in 1995; captain in 1998; and district chief in 2002.
Mayor John Peyton appointed Roseberry chief of the Prevention Division in August 2003.
Highlights of Roseberry's career will never appear in headlines or lead the nightly news. If the Prevention Division is successful, nothing will happen. Fires will be prevented, and fires that do break out will be extinguished before they get out of control because smoke alarms alert residents and sprinkler systems work the way they were designed to.
Roseberry attended Florida Community College at Jacksonville and Memphis State University. He has completed numerous fire science, fire code and building inspector courses and seminars.
As chief of the Fire Prevention Division, Roseberry serves as the city fire marshal and directs a staff of 27 personnel.
