Adjustments, Credits and Exemptions Frequently Asked Questions

I received a bill but my property is totally empty - there is no structure on it, no pavement.  What do I do?
You will need to submit an application for an adjustment, and note on the application in the "Other" section that your property is now vacant.  Which application you submit will depend on the type of property you own and for which fees you were billed:

Residential, billed STORMWATER or BOTH, use:

Residential Adjustment Application

Residential, billed SOLID WASTE ONLY, use:

Solid Waste Property Type Adjustment Application

Non-residential, billed STORMWATER ONLY, use:

Non-Residential Adjustment Application

We strongly recommend property owners in this situation also correct their property data with the Property Appraiser.

My house/dwelling is currently vacant and has no electric service, so do I have to pay the entire solid waste fee?

The entire fee must be paid in advance by the due date to avoid late payment penalties.  Solid waste fee vacancy adjustments will be processed after the end of the billing service period (December 31).  This is necessary so that customers may apply just once for the total amount of refund due.

The city adjusted its documentation policy on May 13, 2008.  Property owners will not be required to provide any supporting documentation; rather, the Solid Waste Division will independently verify the electric service records from the utility.

Refunds will only be issued for whole months (30 consecutive days) at a time - refunds will not be pro-rated for partial months.

I don't have a permitted pond in my neighborhood/on my property.  What can I do to get credit?
Unfortunately, the credits only apply to ponds that have been permitted through the St. Johns River Water Management District (or DEP in limited cases).

If your facility was constructed before permits were required, you may need to hire a Professional Engineer to certify that your facility meets the same requirements as one that is permitted.
