Tuesday, September 04, 2007 Jacksonville, Fla.
The Duval County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will scale down from a Level Two to a Level Three activation as of 5 p.m. today. Emergency operations officials will continue to monitor the track of Tropical Storm Hanna, however, based on current projections by the National Weather Service, the severity of Hanna’s impact on Jacksonville has been significantly reduced. They are also closely monitoring the potential path of Hurricane Ike.
While the storm is anticipated to remain more than 100 miles off the coast, residents and visitors are reminded to exercise extreme caution at the beaches and on area waterways. Rough surf and rip tides are likely along the coast and inland waters will continue to be choppy.
Beach-goers should take extra caution by staying close to shore and swimming near a lifeguard. Boaters should heed watercraft advisories by staying tuned to NOAA Weather Alert Radio broadcasts and local radio and television newscasts for the marine forecast.
Residents and visitors are also reminded to remain vigilant in their preparations for hurricane season. Reviewing family plans and stocking up on supplies now can add to a family’s safety and comfort during and after a disaster. Store enough supplies for three to seven days in one place.
